Berrie Expansion - Columbia University Irving Medical Center
This project, aiming to become the first Net Zero-capable lab in New York, is a 9-story expansion to an existing building that offers dry and wet labs, a vivarium, and a community health forum.
The state-of-the-art research facility for the Columbia University Irving Medical Campus (CUIMC) and Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons will enhance the campus research program with the addition of efficient, modernized wet and dry laboratory and vivarium floor plates. The building is designed to meet or surpass Columbia’s 2030 Sustainability Goals, and aims to be the first Net Zero capable laboratory building in New York City. The design of the addition ensures a seamless connection with the existing building. Prioritizing space for research, the proposed building will maximize laboratory space, and upgrade cage counts and cage wash facilities. This addition also aims to engage the street in a meaningful way, promoting science and sustainability, collaboration and exchange, amongst the building’s researchers, medical campus, and surrounding community.
