ATHLETICS TRAINING FACILITY, UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA

The University of Nebraska’s Osborne Legacy Complex is a world-class athletic training facility

One of the largest athletic facilities of its kind in the United States, this 315,000-square-foot building brings cutting edge facilities to the Cornhusker football program, and incomparable amenities to all of the 600 plus student athletes at The University of Nebraska.  The building features an advanced athletic medicine facility, a training table to feed all of the University’s athletes, a new strength and conditioning complex, advanced recovery rooms, and academic support facilities for every student-athlete.

The striking design by Populous, OsborneLegacyComplex, was bold and, as the structural engineer Hatfield Group Engineering solved a number of complex issues to meet the architect’s design intent.

The atrium has a two-way tapered plate girder system with depths ranging from 48 inches to 60 inches and spanning 120 feet in two directions; deep plate girders made from built-up steel plates further help support the floor below and keep the atrium interior nearly column free.

These plate girders also uphold the building's distinctive red canopy, the striking focal point of the design, which creates a welcoming atmosphere and leaves a lasting impression on team members, prospective student-athletes and fans.
